IPG WLN Managing Bias Workshop

We all have unconscious bias; it’s hardwired in each of us. When these biases become part of the important decisions we make at work, it can negatively impact our workplace and prevent us from achieving our most innovative work. Surfacing and understanding the unconscious biases that we all have, and learning how to counteract them, is crucial as we strive to create an inclusive workplace. WLN Singapore invited all IPG staff to take part in ‘Managing Bias’, a two and half hour foundational training course using academic and industry research, to illustrate four types of unconscious bias most prevalent in the workplace across the Asia Pacific region.

Female Founders Panel: Advice and Inspiration

On Monday, September 23rd, the WLN Boston chapter hosted “Female Founders Panel: Advice and Inspiration” at Hill Holliday. The event featured three inspiring Boston-based female founders - Farrah Belizaire of LiteWork Events, Jess Fracalossi of The Handle Bar, and Cayla Marvil of Lamplighter Brewing Co. - and was moderated by our very own co-chair Meghan Dillon.

Topics included the founders’ entrepreneurial journeys and how they built a business from the ground up, how they’ve conquered roadblocks as female-founded businesses, and how they maintain the strength of their businesses. About 60 people from Weber Shandwick, Mullen, and Hill Holliday attended, and guests were given the opportunity to network before and after the panel, while enjoying some beverages and post-work bites!

Women Leading IPG Forward

On August 22nd, the Women’s Leadership Network in Los Angeles hosted “Leading IPG Forward.” The event featured a panel discussion moderated by President of Rogers & Cowan/PMK-BNC and LA WLN Chair, Shirley Hughes along with guest speakers from Rogers & Cowan, Rufus, and UM. The panel of powerful women discussed their journeys, stories, and experiences as women in their careers, their personal lives, and the work they do for their clients. More than 60 guests attended across six different agencies who had the opportunity to ask questions and hear advice on best practices and moving their careers forward.

 

 

Boston Chapter Hosts Professional Headshots and Lunch and Learn

The Boston chapter held a professional headshot day that was a huge success! We had 2 photographers working 10-minute timeslots and had one WLN member with each woman being photographed to help fix any pesky flyaway hairs, ensure outfits were behaving and generally make sure everyone was feeling confident and beautiful.Read more

WLN DC Hosts Inaugural Book Club

WLN DC hosted an enjoyable evening at the Octagon McLean office where they held their first Washington DC WLN Chapter book club event.  The first book was The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict. While the book received mixed reviews, all wanted to learn more about the amazing story of Hedy Lamarr.

Be the Ally

IPG Women’s Leadership Network, in collaboration with Facebook, hosted an event titled, “Be the Ally.” The audience included over 80 people from across 18 IPG companies. The event was a mixture of activities designed to make us think about the impact and related responsibility of our behaviors and communication styles.Read more
